Preparation for IELTS is more convenient to start from the end: from the date of the exam and the target result. IELTS includes Listening, Reading, Writing and Speaking; the format and requirements should be studied separately from General English.

T-12 weeks - diagnostic test

Perform the training option in conditions as close as possible to the real: without a dictionary and unnecessary pauses. The goal is not a beautiful result, but an honest starting point.

T-11 - four separate profiles

SkillsWhat to measureTypical problem
ListeningErrors by type of taskKey information is being lost
ReadingAccuracy + timeToo long on one text.
WritingCriteria + structureWeak response development
SpeakingFluency, vocabulary, grammar, pronunciationShort or memorized answers

T-10 and T-9 - Mechanics of the exam

  • study the types of tasks;
  • Read the official instructions;
  • See official sample tasks;
  • Understand the Speaking and Writing criteria;
  • Identify Academic or General Training.

T-8 and T-7 - repair of weak skills

You don’t have to write a full sample every day. Work in blocks: one type of Reading, one listening problem, one writing structure, one speaking skill.

T-6 - Turn on the timer

  1. First, complete the task without a hard time.
  2. Discover the mistake.
  3. Repeat the same with the timer.
  4. Compare quality and speed.

T-5 - error log

Mistake.Reason.What to train
Wrong answer.I don't understand paraphrasing.Synonyms/paraphrase
I didn't.Stuck on the question.Time strategy
Writing weakDidn't develop an argument.Idea development

T-4 and T-2 complete mock tests

Now individual skills are collected in a long load. Compare stability, not one record result.

Last week.

  • Don’t try to learn hundreds of smart words.
  • repeat the format;
  • Pass your frequent mistakes;
  • maintain normal sleep;
  • Check the organizational requirements of the exam.

Signs of readiness

  1. You know the structure of the test.
  2. You understand the target band.
  3. You're in time.
  4. You know repeated mistakes.
  5. You have a strategy for a difficult task.
  6. The result in training is relatively stable.

The IELTS format and criteria should always be checked with the official website before the exam, because organizational details can be updated.
