This article is a phonetic laboratory. You need headphones, a voice recorder and ten minutes of silence. Our goal is not to “remove any accent”, but to learn to consistently distinguish and reproduce sounds so that speech is easy to understand.

Laboratory rule

Do not practice complex sound in a long sentence. Follow the chain:

  1. hear;
  2. reproduce separately;
  3. compare the record;
  4. syllable;
  5. word;
  6. a short sentence.

Station ع

Don’t look for a Russian letter that’s about the same. Think of sound as a new movement of the speech apparatus. Listen to the short standards of one speaker or teacher, not ten different options in a row.

Station ح

First you need to learn to hear the difference with sounds close to the Russian ear. If the hearing does not distinguish the contrast, the pronunciation will constantly return to the usual category.

Station خ

Here, familiar Russian-speaking sensations can partially help, but it is important to listen to the sound in different positions of the word.

Station ق

A special case: the implementation of this letter may differ between literary Arabic and colloquial variants. Therefore, always specify which option you are training.

Why Russian Transcription Becomes a Trap

  • The brain is automatically drawn to Russian sounds.
  • The connection with the Arabic letter is lost.
  • Difficult to move to reading;
  • Some of the contrasts cannot be accurately conveyed.

Ten-minute training

  1. 2 minutes to listen.
  2. 2 minutes - sound and syllables.
  3. 2 minutes, words.
  4. 2 minutes, phrases.
  5. 2 minutes - recording and comparison.

Week 3ق

Comparing records after a week is usually more useful than feeling “I can’t do it”. Progress in phonetics is small, but very noticeable if you listen to yourself systematically.
