Imagine a traffic light. It doesn’t replace school or university rules, but it helps you quickly understand the nature of help: Does AI train your skill or perform it for you?

Green zone.

  • Explain an obscure topic;
  • Create additional exercises;
  • ask verification questions;
  • Check the work already done;
  • Give a clue, not a ready answer.

Yellow zone.

It all depends on the rules of a particular task.

Action.Why do you need to check the rules
EditingCan replace assessed writing skills
TranslationInadmissible if translation is evaluated
Essay planCan be resolved as brainstorm
Code tipsDepends on the course format

Red zone.

AI creates the work, and the student pretends it is his own, contrary to the rules of the task. It is not only academic integrity that is lost here, but the practice for which the task existed disappears.

Six border situations

  1. AI corrected the grammar.
  2. AI translated the text.
  3. The AI set the example and the student read the decision.
  4. AI wrote the code.
  5. AI gave ideas for the essay.
  6. AI has improved style.

For each situation, ask a question:What skills are being evaluated?If this is what AI does, help becomes more problematic.

Test after using AI

  • I can explain every step.
  • I can do a similar task without chatting.
  • I understand that I have changed the instrument.
  • the course rules are observed;
  • My own work remains central.

Quick decision table

QuestionIf no.
Can I do it tomorrow without AI?Skill's not fixed.
Allowed by the rules?Do not use
Understand the result?Disassemble before delivery
You got my first try?Go back to her.

Rule of autonomy

If you were given a similar task tomorrow without AI, would you be able to do it? This is one of the best questions separating learning from a beautiful finished result.
